3 Days To Go.....

and I'm beginning to think about packing. I know I'll enjoy it, as there is a sense of "finally setting off" associated with the whole affair.

I'm well travelled and consider myself to be one of the best packers on the planet. This is mainly because when I forget something, which I invariably do, I consider it to be an affirmation of my character and individuality, rather than allowing it to become a holiday destroying fault, which for lesser beings it could be! As an example I have gone away to India for a month and failed to take any T-shirts at all. I went to Val Thorens for a BASI week with only one pair of normal socks on my feet and no others. On a recent week long trip to France, I forgot to pack any underwear at all, much to the chagrin of my fiancee!

So while putting off the pleasure of packing, I'm also running through the lists of things I mustn't forget, and how I will pack them. And here lies the nub of the issue:

There is much discussion on the forums of the web on what constitutes acceptable packing for a snowboard and clothes. Whilst it is generally agreed that a limit of 23Kgs is the norm for the cheapo airways, it is unclear how that can be packaged.

I have two boards and all the associated paraphernalia of a dedicated boarder who self-services.

Accordingly I have a large coffin board-bag that I like to stick it all in. My hand luggage will hold all the electricals; what could possibly go wrong?

Well, it would appear that some airlines prefer boards to go without the clothes; that is to say separately, as two individual pieces of luggage, for which you will be charged separate prices.

I have decided to be proactive in this matter. For my outbound flight I have acquiesced, and paid for board carriage and hold luggage too. Total costs £28.50 for the board, and £9.50 for the hold luggage. On the return flight I have not paid for hold luggage, but have paid the £28.50 for the board bag which holds everything.

The terms and conditions are vague but I feel £28.50 should suffice for a packed board-bag. Especially when this charge is applied in each direction.

I will keep you informed as to the outcome....

PEACE!
